The Organic Grocer

Lohla Gleave

The Organic Grocer, is an online based delivery box scheme, based in Durbanville. We source all our organic produce from smaller, locally based farms in the Western Cape. I have personally visited all the farms I buy from to ensure that they are growing their fruit and vegetables biodynamically and according to organic standards. Not all the farmers are certified organic, mainly due to the financial costs of doing this, but they are farming organically.

What prompted the Organic Grocer?
I (Lohla) love food and have a passion for healthy living. I am determined to eat produce that is freshly sourced from local organic farmers and I want to offer like minded people the same opportunity.

I believe that every individual should have the right to eat foods free of harmful poisons and my aim is to try to make these foods affordable to the man/woman in the street.

The benefits of eating organic foods
Eating with the seasons. Food should be grown according to the season, hence a more intense flavour as the natural elements at that time ensure a fuller flavour.

No antibiotics, no pesticides, no growth hormones and no genetically modified foods. As yet, no one knows the long terms effects of GM foods!

Studies have shown that on average, organic food has higher levels of iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and vitamin c that commercially farmed foods.
It feels good to know that you are not only helping the environment, you are feeding yourself and your family on good, pure food.
