The Green Network is a formally constituted association of more than 45 community-based organizations (CBOs) located in the urban, peri-urban and rural environment of Pietermaritzburg-Msunduzi and surrounding areas. Members include women groups, youth groups, environmental clubs, agricultural clubs and a variety of other civic organizations. Although some member organizations are politically aligned, the network itself is apolitical. The Green Network’s aim is to provide a platform for and a medium through which previously disadvantaged people can:

• Articulate their concerns about environment and development issues that affect them,
• Express a common vision for improved environmental conservation and socio-economic well-being, and
• Formulate and implement strategies that resolve concerns and optimise opportunities.

Green Network participates in the South Africa Climate Action Network (SA-CAN) and South African Civil Society Water Caucus which is a member of the International Rivers Network.
