The Antidote

The Antidote is the blog of Andreas, a fairly ordinary South African, living in Cape Town’s southern suburbs - married, two kids, two dogs and a mortgage.

In our everyday lives - our jobs, our relationships and as parents - we are constantly confronted by aspects of “The System”, “The Matrix”, “Empire” or whatever you want to call the intricate network of laws, societal norms, economic constraints, political dogma and moral codes that define our world.

Like many others in South Africa and around the globe, I’ve been feeling increasingly alienated from this society and civilisation which seems hell-bent on destroying the environment and any chance of peaceful global coexistence in its quest for never-ending power and profits.

The Antidote chronicles my daily run-ins with this system and how I try to deal with various situations - in small ways and in bigger contexts, with an eye on the local and the global. I don’t have the answers to all of our problems, far from it, but I do believe that as individuals we can make a difference: a baby-step revolution of everyday life to bring about the much dreamt-about Better World for All!
