Rosemary Hill Farm Market has been around for two years. They're trying something slightly new as of this weekend, with a focus on family and food. They're also moving the market to Friday evenings in order to accommodate this.

Rosemary Hill is just that, a hill on a stretch of gorgeous organic farmland only 10 minutes outside Pretoria, or 45 minutes from Sandton (considering it takes at least that to get across Jo'burg, it isn't far).

The farm has been organic since 1978 and grows African potato, sutherlandia, rosemary, lavender, artemisia, lippia, spearmint, eucalyptus and other plants from which they distill essential oils. They have a herd of Nguni cattle and grow other crops like pecan nuts, as well as vegetables. Next door to them is the Max Stibbe Waldorf School.

The idea for Friday evenings (the second and last of every month, starting this Friday 28 January) is to provide a place for families to get together at the end of the week to catch up and enjoy a variety of local al fresco foods in a relaxed atmosphere, with fun things for the kids.

So, head out to the market, which will open from 4pm – 10 pm. Stalls will include fresh produce (some organic, others local), baked goods, arts and crafts. The meals with all be deliciously homemade.

Children have a play area, pony rides, sunset tractor rides and other entertainment. Bring pets, prams, bicycles for an evening under the stars. And you can bring your clean waste for recycling (glass, paper, plastic and boxes)

Rosemary hill farm is 8 minutes from Silver Lakes, 20 minutes from Menlyn and 20 minutes from Hatfield.

Travelling on the N4, take the Boschkop/ Donkerhoek off-ramp. Turn right and continue over the highway for 2.2 km they are situated on your right.

Unfortunately the Rosemary Hill Market closed in March 2011 - we're sad to see it go.
