Panda Bamboo was one of the first companies to introduce this exciting material to South Africa. Bamboo has been widely used in numerous interior décor applications in many other countries, and has really taken off in South Africa as a viable alternative to hardwood timber.
The warmth and aesthetic attraction of solid timber is appealing, but increasing use of timber has led to massive deforestation, a leading cause of climate change. Bamboo offers the same quality, warmth and visual appeal of solid wood, but without the negative environmental impact. Because of its rapid growth rate bamboo is one of the most sustainable natural resources available. The stems mature in about 5 years, and the oldest stems in each clump are harvested annually without killing the plant, and without leaving a deforested landscape. Bamboo forests also absorb more CO2 per hectare than equivalent timber forests, and bamboo products, in fact, have a net positive carbon footprint; more CO2 is consumed by the plants while they are growing than is released during the manufacture and transport of the finished products.
With warehouses in Cape Town and Johannesburg, Panda Bamboo supplies throughout South Africa and further afield.
