Hlangane (to gather or collect in Zulu) was formed in 2001, with just two men and two barrows. The concept of 'waste gathering, sorting and recycling' quickly gained momentum, and it wasn't long before Monte Casino gave Hlangane the boost it needed by utilizing the service for their vast waste management.

Today, Hlangane has two members - June Reynolds and Stanley Ngobeni. The company employs over 50 under-privileged people who are situated at various companies. These men and women, whose only form of income is through their work with Hlangane, sort through waste, separating materials such as glass, paper, steel and plastic which is then sold for recycling.

The whole process is ultimately motivated by two important factors: job creation and helping to preserve our planet!
