Hemp

A website promoting hemp - one of the most versatile, valuable and controversial plants we know. Its potential contribution to nutrition is gaining recognition internationally. The seeds are pressed for oil, crushed to create flour or eaten as a nut substitute. They have a very high content both of protein and of oil with the optimum ratio of essential fatty acids (EFAs) for human nutrition. This EFA-rich oil can be used as a nutritional supplement, in aromatherapy, to make skincare products and cosmetics, as a lubricant, in the manufacture of alkyd resins etc.

The hemp cake (pressed seed waste product) can be used as animal feed, in plant fertilizer, in bait and much more. Hemp stalks and seeds serve as raw material for a diverse array of products.

Because South African law prohibits cultivation of hemp except for research purposes, all hemp products currently have to be imported.
