envirochild is a broad-based group of Hout Bay residents dedicated to transforming our valley into a healthy, prosperous and united community.

We believe that the principles of sustainability and community participation will enable us to solve many of our local problems in a constructive and non-party political way.

At the same time, they will enable us to mitigate the impact of climate change and oil depletion on our quality of life.

The disputed council-owned land adjacent to Imizamo Yethu presents an ideal opportunity to put these principles into practice in order to find a long-term solution the whole of Hout Bay can support.

Envirochild is working hard to build consensus for the establishment of an ecovillage on the so-called "forestry land" site. The village would provide housing, employment, micro-business opportunities, food gardens and community amenities including a clinic, a school, a community hall and sports facilities.
