Coffee Shack is a backpackers’ tropical paradise located right on the beach at the Bomvu River mouth in the Transkei, an area governed by traditional tribal authorities. We have a reputation of being a fun, good-value hostel with excellent facilities and professional staff.

Spend your time doing one of our many day trips, having surf lessons with a professional surf instructor, or just relaxing in the treetop hammock, before joining a spectacular sundowner or being entertained by the many local choirs. Evenings are spent rocking around the pool table in the Babalaza Bar, or just chilling around our nightly campfire.

Coffee Shack is certified by Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA), due to the fact that 30% of it is owned by the adjacent Tshezi community. Employees are offered ongoing business training, and operational goods are sourced from local suppliers.
